I like your post a lot. How often do we get lost in thoughts and in plans and lose touch with our own selves. However, plans, thinking, and goals are not inherently bad; its just being too attached to those things. And attachment to awareness can be bad too. Awareness is a tool like thinking, that must be integrated into the human condition. While the awareness comes from God, indirectly, the downside is that it takes a long time to purify the shadow side through awareness. Once the love of God is found, that becomes much more interesting than awareness. I am a Baha'i mystic; (most Baha'is at this specific moment in history would not call themselves mystics even though Baha'i scripture implies every human should be). If truth exists, there has to be some vessel for truth. There can't be 7.2 billion variations of truth. So the idea of religion makes sense. But which religion? Christianity? There are thousands and thousands of sects many think the other sects will burn in hell. Islam? a lot of sects there as well and then there are the outdated laws. The Baha'i Faith teaches progressive revelation; the idea that God teaches mankind what he is ready to hear but that much of this is not meant to be an absolute truth for all time. As humans grow in understanding, and the original message is distorted by men, God renews religion by sending another Prophet. Old barbaric laws were in place because it was a barbaric world. Baha'is believe that Baha'u'llah is the Prophet of God for this day and age but more Prophets will come. The idea of progressive revelation, revealed by Baha'u'llah in the 1800's, is the only model in a major religion that can explain how the path of salvation could take place in a consistent manner on Earth as it does other planets. A mystics mind knows there has life elsewhere is the Galaxy and it doesn't seem like it will be too much farther until we find it. Given your interest in mysticism, if you are interested in reading a short book by Baha'u'llah, I suggest "The Seven Valleys." -Robert "O people!
